Me dancing at my boss's retirement party
I couldn't resist adding a page of my favorite bellydance links from all over because a.) I'm a bellydancer (I danced with the Melissae Dance Company from Denman Is., BC, for about 6 years) and b.) I'm an information junkie! This isn't a list of dancers' sites, but some of the links below have such lists.
http://www.maqam.com/ A great source of Middle Eastern music and film-- great prices, inexpensive shipping (even to Canada!), fast service. A HUGE catalog!
http://www.arabfilm.com/ A great source of films (some bellydance) from the Arab world. I have had great service and reasonable shipping rates to Canada from this Washington State company.
My two favorites;
http://www.joyofbellydancing.com/
and
http://shira.net/
If you are into groups and mailing lists, Yahoo! Groups has about 392 bellydance groups!
Vegan Bellydancers! This is a page on a lovely site by Amethyst from Pittsburgh, PA.
Shamira: Shamira is a beautiful dancer and a great teacher. Visit her website for interesting bellydance tips, and to purchase her DVD's and videos, which are comprehensive and very reasonably-priced-- excellent value!! I have learned lots of interesting variations on classic bellydance movements from her videos. Her workouts are fun and make you sweat, but it's REAL bellydance, not a dumbed-down exercise sort of thing.
Tamalyn Dallal of Seattle: check out her website for her new book ,dvd, and cd "40 Days, 1001 Nights" (partial proceeds to musicians and projects for people in need
overseas) Learn more about her project at http://www.40daysand1001nights.com/
A good all-around site with lots of links to music, video, articles and journals, Mid-East recipes, vendors, info, and more:
