Debbie, just wondering if you have any friends / family in Acheh ? I've been talking to my family since the earthquake hit early this morning, and they say that even people in Kuala Lumpur felt the after shocks. I just can't imagine how bad it must be in Indonesia. I hope your family is ok. ---------- Val

Hi Val,
At first, I didn't think that I have a family in Sumatra. But my mom told me that my grandma's sister(from my dad's side) has a son who lives in South Sumatra. Apparently, our relatives are everywhere. I think he is in south and west area in the town called Palembang. Banda Aceh is on the north side of Sumatra.
We lost contact with this guy until my dad passed away last year. He wrote a letter to my mom to offer condolences and wrote to us that he lives in Sumatra now. He is a doctor now and practicing over there. We don't know how he is since he didn't leave a phone number, only address. But looking at the map I think he will be fine and probably was just shaken up a bit.
Since you just moved here you probably haven't felt any earthquake before? I have been in SoCal for 28 years and have experienced several. At first it was very scary but then I got used to it. Of course, I haven't experienced anything like the 8.7 one. :-)

No Debbie, I haven't experienced an earthquake (and I'm quite happy to let it stay that way!) :)
I'm glad your family is ok. ---------- Val
