I found this one in Long Beach. Actually I ate at their cafe once, back in 1997. I didn't remember the market but at that time I was still a junky vegetarian so I didn't notice things like bulk sections, etc. I don't know if they have a bulk section to buy flours and grains or not. You can call first.
Papa Jon's market
Usually, a market that is small can be cheaper than Wild Oats or Whole Foods. Mother's market is small and owned by private individuals. Hopefully, Papa Jon's is the same. Too bad we don't have co-ops like other places.

Debbie, thanks for the info in this post and the earlier one. I'll check out Mother's Market. I get all my produce from farmers markets (I too believe in supporting local farmers), plus the produce is really fresh and reasonably priced.
I did go to a small Wild Oats in L.B. I haven't tried Papa John's yet, but I heard their original cafe had closed down, and that a local diner had taken over (just regular food). I guess that's a good place to start - Papa John's and Mother's Market. Thanks for the info. ---------- Val

Val,
Hmmm, I see, I was wondering if Papa Jon's is going to survive. I remember that I didn't like their food when I ate there.
Which farmers market do you go to? A local and close to your house? I go to the one in Tustin and Laguna Beach. There is vendor who sells bread (bake it himself) and the bread is mostly vegan and all natural ingredients (some has cheese). They even bake vegan cinnamon rolls and chocolate muffins. The name is Bread Gallery. Their bread is pretty good since the owner is German. He belives to bake European style bread with lower yeast amount.

Debbie,
I go to 2 farmers markets. The one on 5th and Long Beach Blvd is on Fridays, and the one on PCH and 2nd (by the Marina) in Long Beach is on Sundays. A 3rd one is re-opening in April (I think that's going to be on Thursdays). The 2 that I go to are good and have great stuff. I did see a couple bread and pastry vendors but haven't bought anything from them as I just assumed they'd probably not be vegan. It's good to know that Bread Gallery has vegan stuff! I'll check to see if they set up at these 2 markets. Thanks! ---------- Val
