I tried making the Baba Ghanoush from the latest newsletter. I did know that before broiling a whole eggplant you are supposed to prick it to allow an outlet for steam to excape, but it has been a while since I have done that and the recipe did not say to do so. I forgot. After about 15 minutes the eggplant exploded in the oven. There was no damage except a mess in the oven. Luckily I have a self cleaning oven and it is overdue for a cleaning, so that will be no problem.
My poor husband happened to be standing next to the oven and he reacted as if there had been an attempt on his life. It didn't help that I was doubled over laughing.
Anyway, Bryanna, I suggest that you make a minor addition to the recipe instructions and tell people to prick or make small slits in the eggplant before heating.

Ha ha ha....! That is so funny! 'Eggsplosion', that's a good one Kym! I didn't know about this fact of eggplant. I have never tried putting whole eggplant in the oven. Somehow I always cut it up first. That's good to know.
