(For Americans, Macleans is sort of like Time magazine, only Canadian.)

I know people who don't want to drink soy milk because it's bad for the sperms. My friend drinks soy milk but she won't give it to her sons and husband. I thought that it is ridiculous. Her son wants to be a vegetarian but she won't let him eat veggie meat with soy in it.

Another friend of mine just replied and said 'I heard that it's bad for sperms!' when I sent her this article. Aarg!

I grew up in Indonesia and we eat a lot of tempeh. Tempeh is very cheap in Indonesia. Most people in Indonesia are poor and they can't afford meat so they eat tempeh. But yet they multiply fast and fierce. Look at their population now. Look at China's population. I don't think the men there are lacking of sperms. :-)

Thanks for posting, you guys! I have actually answered some comments on that article a couple of times. Now there is a LONG comment (#27) from a Weston A. Price supporter, but I don't want to post again. Hopefully, people will read my "Soy Safety" page.

She writes: " Artificial or natural, screwing with your hormone function is risky business. Plants are drugs, don’t forget. Chemical drugs are based on plant science. So it makes sense, just possibly, that estrogen might not be a good idea to feed either boys or girls. You have the estrogen you need already. It’s not about making anyone gay. It’s about girls menstruating before age ten and little boys growing moobs [she means "man-boobs"]. It is happening out there. It makes sense to question the hormones in meat, the estrogen in plastics, and the estrogen in soy foods."

What she doesn't say-- and I wish someone else would!-- is that OBESE boys, eating hamburgers and fried wings are the ones with "man-boobs". Vegetarian girls have, on average, a LATER menarche! (This has been studied many times among Seventh Day Adventist girls who eat alot of processed soy!)

Soooo frustrating!

Debbie, maybe tell them to read my page:

It has tons of information.

this article (or the comments) is so frustrating! you know part of what drives this "soy is bad" bs, is that people are desperate to bash down any legit alternative to their meat-filled diets. So just like many other desperate things, they'll believe any whiff of a notion that agrees with the views/opinions they *want* to have!

I wonder if I could convince two lesbian friends to eat enough soy, would it make them straight?

LOL, Frances! I couldn't resist answering that woman I quoted above, but it was so long I posted it on my website here:
