I'm absolutely desperate to find a vegan marshmallow recipe, marshmallows are the only food I truly miss (I spent 6 years as a camp counseler... 'nuff said!) help would be much appreciated

veganessentials carries vegan marshmallows:
http://store.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=vegane&StoreType=BtoC&Count1=299801051&Count2=216941475

I have not found a recipe that works so far. The old ones contained EMES kosher gelatin, which turned out to contain animal protein.

Hannah Kaminsky, who writes the Bittersweet Blog had an entry on the Sweet & Sara Marshmallows listed at the link Bryanna gave. She literally RAVED about them, and even roasted one to see how they stand up to that, and she said "the edges began to brown and bubble in no time, yielded a saccharine, gooey ecstacy, far better than any campfire treat that I could remember."

Sweet & Sara vegan marshmallows are the best ever! Don't even bother trying to make them. Go to Sara's website and read her incredible story on utube. www.sweetandsara.com

I used to get the Vegan Sweets one but the stores around here stopped carrying them--I think they had some manufacturing issues. They were heavy and brownish but melted they made nice krispy treats.

vivagranola dot com in Quebec City, Canada has just recently started selling online marshmallows. I have just ordered some but not received them as yet, but I'll post what I think when I have tasted them!

They also have Sheese, which I ordered, and have enjoyed. Their flavors are a bit strong but I guess I've adjusted. I have the Blue Sheese in the freezer, saving til last, and I have just ordered the Mozarella, which I've heard good things about.

There is now a vegan "marshmallow kit" available:
http://angelfood.co.nz/confectionery.htm

It is shipped worldwide. Here is a review from Hannah Kaminsky's ("My Sweet Vegan") blog-- with pictures!:
