Hi Bryanna,

I have been making pizza and calzones using your pizza dough recipe. They are yummy. We really like the dough and was great for calzones.

My pizza stone that I have for more than 13 years broke tonight after I baked calzones in 500 degrees. I don't know what happened. I decided not to buy this kind of stone anymore and want to buy tiles from a hardware/home improvement store. Is there where you got yours? What should I ask for and what's the name or what kind of tiles?

Please let me know. I think it should be cheaper than those pizza stone sold in cooking store.

Thanks. Have you made calzone with your dough? It's yummy!

BTW, I made your Stout Chocolate Cake and it's delicious! It's dense but yet light. Mitchell really likes it.

yes, you can buy them there, or from a store that specializes in tiles. They have to be unglazed. You can use smaller ones or the larger quarry tiles. If they have a chip on one corner you can get them very cheap!

Are they red like clay pot? Also, do you soak them in water first, like clay pot? I know that we have to start with cold oven, right? I also assume that they should take 500 F or more, right?

Thanks so much. I will go to the home improvement store.

They look kind of like that, but you don't have to soak them. You line you rack with them and then start the oven. The oven has to heat up for at least 30 minutes.

Hi Bryanna,

I am having problems trying to find unglazed quarry tiles, especially, the large one, 12 by 12 inches.

But I did find 'Saltillo' tiles from Mexico. They are 12 by 12 inches, just perfect for a pizza. These are also unglazed. I searched the internet about the uses of these for pizza or bread. I got more confused by the answers.

I think it is ok. Here is the descriptions of these tiles:

They should work, I think.
