Bryanna,
Is this pie like chocolate pecan pie? I want to make it for my xmas party this Sunday. Can I make it ahead and refridgerated and it still be good this Sunday?
Thanks, ---------- Debbie

It's not quite the same-- the filling is more firm. But it's delicious! It's not a "take-off' on pecan pie; it's my take-off on an old Amish recipe.

Bryanna,
I made it this morning and some of the crumbs didn't mix and floated on top (the whole pastry flour mixture). Do I supposed to mix it before cooking, in the pie pan?
I didn't know how it supposed to be when it is done so I baked it 10 minutes longer because it didn't look like it is going to be firm. I took it out and it is firmer when it cools. Sorry I am a bit confused with this recipe since I can't imagine the final product supposed to look like.
It is cooling now and I haven't tasted it yet. Hopefully it will turn out good as you said.

Debbie,
I made this about a month ago. I too noticed the flour mixture floating on top, and just sort of dunked the flour under the maple syrup mixture with the tines of a fork.
It was the most amazingly delicious dish!!! Not a rich, heavy dessert, but instead light and sweet.

Actually it is supposed to separate into layers somewhat, so don't worry about that! I should have described it better, I guess.
here's a picture of the old-fashioned variety of shoofly pie: http://megamunch.blogspot.com/2006/06/shoo-fly-pie-and-monkey-crap.html

Bryanna and Brenda,
I ate a piece of the pie and it was delicious! Thanks for the picture. It is a really good picture of this pie. Yes, mine looks like that with the crumbs on top. Ok, that's great and I don't have to worry about the floating crumbs then.
This is my first time to make a shoofly pie. I have never heard of it or ate it before.
Thanks for all your help. Tomorrow I will present the pie with a piece missing. Oh well, I just have to try it first before I give it to guests. :-) They'll understand.

EVERYONE! This pie is DELICIOUS! My family liked it. My hubby liked it. We had leftover and brought it traveling with us for 5 days and it was still gooooood. My hubby just ate and ate and ate this pie. My vegan friend who only got a slice when he was at our house dreams about this pie and regretted it that he didn't cut another slice when he got the chance.
The best thing is: it is EASY to make.
