tell me where to find Bryann's roast recipes? I have been searching the archives but must somehow be missing the recipes.
Thanks so much.

Patricia, I'm at work now, so I can't look that up myself.

Are you using the search box on this website? Because it will NOT search anything from password-protected pages.

The best way to search the newsletter archives is to download all the issues onto your computer and then download Copernic Desktop Search (which is all explained, with a link, etc., on the subscriber page-- the password-protected one) onto your comouter. It indexes whatever files on your computer that you want. That's how I keep track of things, because indexing I just beyond my budget.

Then you can search in copernic for "seitan" or "roast" or "soy and seitan", or whatever. In the Copernic search box put more than one word phrases in quotation marks

When I want to search for something, I use the regular Windows search (all Windows operating systems have a search option). I save all of Bryanna's newsletters in a folder and in my search options I select that folder to search in, then put in a key word like "roast" and it pulls up all the files that contain that word. That's how I search for anything in all my recipes. It always works well for me.

Peace~

Hi, Silvia! Thanks for that. I tried using Windows Search and it would not search my pdf files for things I knew were in there. So I went to "Help" and discovered Windows indexing, which I'm ashamed to say, I did not know about! So I am now having it scan my files and we'll see if it works as well as Copernic for me.

UPDATE: After my files were indexed I found that the pdf files were still not showing up. You have to right-click on the pdf files you want index and go into "properties', and "advanced", and "files are ready for archiving" as well as the other check box, then click "apply" . Another box comes up asking something about searching subfolders, etc., to which I said "yes", and then Ok, and they were immediately indexed!

Hi Bryanna,

I do not know what version of Windows you are using (I currently have Vista) but there should be a box you can check which says "Include non-indexed, hidden, and system files." But the quickest way, I found, is to have the search look in a particular folder (under the advanced option). Since I keep all of your pdf files in one folder, when I want to search them, in the advanced options, where it says "Location" I select that folder and it only searches the files in that folder. It is very fast. When you make the search location a particular folder, it does not have to be indexed and it only searches the files in that folder. Only when you do a search where the location is listed as "indexed locations" then it will only search indexed items. I never use that search because I don't know what is indexed and what is not! I hope this helps more.

Also, Bryanna, did you get my email? I sent you an email a couple days ago regarding newsletter renewal.

Peace~

Bryanna-- I have Windows XP, and I did check that box.

Silvbia-- But the quickest way, I found, is to have the search look in a particular folder (under the advanced option). Since I keep all of your pdf files in one folder, when I want to search them, in the advanced options, where it says "Location" I select that folder and it only searches the files in that folder.

Bryanna-- I did that, but it still didn't search the PDF files until I did what I described above on the pdf file folders. Then the pdf folders were immediately indexed.

Silvia-- It is very fast. When you make the search location a particular folder, it does not have to be indexed and it only searches the files in that folder. Only when you do a search where the location is listed as "indexed locations" then it will only search indexed items. I never use that search because I don't know what is indexed and what is not!

Bryanna-- I just indexed everything and, yes, it is fast and conbvenient. Once you turn the indexing application on, it will update it all the time, evidently.

Silvia--Also, Bryanna, did you get my email? I sent you an email a couple days ago regarding newsletter renewal.

Bryanna-- thanks for reminding me-- will email you!

Silvia, did you read my latest entry? Here is my conclusion:

I still think that Copernic is the easiest and most reliable, because it automatically indexes everything (you just tell it which kind of files you want indexed) on all drives.

Also, I think Copernic does a better job of searching, and I'll tell you why: Using the search term "bakery-style" (as in the example I use below), knew that I had a recipe for muffins with that term in the title in two issues. However, the Windows search consistently only showed one issue and Copernic showed both. When I just used the word "muffins", they both showed up in Windows search.

Another example: I searched for the term "soy and seitan" (which is in the title of many of my seitan roasts and cutlets). Windows came up with 10 hits, Copernic with 19.

Hi Bryanna,

I am definitely going to try the Copernic Software. I am going to download it as soon as I am finished writing this message. I am always interested in learing about and using new software, so this is great.

I have only had Windows Vista for a few months now and I think their "updated" search feature is worse than what they had with previous versions. I have had problems searching with Vista that I didn't have before with other Windows programs, so I am hoping that I can use Copernic for all my searching.

Thanks,

Silvia
