Well, I know I'm blurring the line between my hiking forum and cooking forum here, but just had to share this with you guys!!
This Thanksgiving my husband and I did something totally different .... even tho we don't have any family nearby, I usually do the big meal thing, cooking either for just us, or having friends over.
But this year I suggested we spend the day hiking. The weather cooperated perfectly, being a 60 degree, sunny day. We went to Table Rock State Park in South Carolina and hiked to the top of Table Rock. This first picture shows you the geologic formation that gives the park its name:

A three hour, 3 1/2 mile trail got us to the top of that rock's plateau, and here's what we got treated to:

(you can click on either picture for a larger version)
We ran into the nicest family near the top, and they said their Thanksgiving tradition is to do this hike every holiday. I told hubby that might have to be something we start as well!!

Wow beautiful, Brenda! I would have done the same thing except I was sickly during Thanksgiving. I just came back from China and got sick when arrived home. Not SARS ...ha ha...just bronchitis. I cooked seitan turkey, mashed potato, stuffing, gravy, green beans, and Bryanna's pumpkin cake.
Our weather is nice in California. High 65 or 70 and always sunny.

Oh Debbie, I'm so sorry you were sick over the holiday. Being sick anytime is yucky, but over a holiday is double yucky. I often find I get sick after flying ... is that what happened with you? What was the purpose of your trip to China? Which part of the country did you go to?

Yes, it was after flying. It seems that I am allergic to airplane. :-) I went with a tour to China since I want to see this country (my ancestor is Chinese). I went to Beijing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Shanghai. So the Northern part and part of Southern. I was able to climb the Great Wall and visit the Forbidden City. That was cool. There is so much history that I was in an awe. Make me want to see the movie The Last Emperor again.

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip. My aunt lives and works in China in Fuzhou, the capital of the province of Fujian. I believe this is in southeastern China. She teaches English at a women's college there. She just loves China; whenever she is here in the states, she just pines to get back there.
