Sorry it's so late again, folks. Blame it on the wedding! Anyway, I'm sending the last batch of passwords out before I go to bed (my email provider only lets me send so many group emails out and then I have to wait for an hour!) Hope there's something for everyone in it! ---------- "To look like a goddess, eat like a peasant." Karen Andres

Bryanna, the newsletter looks amazing! You did it again! I can't wait to try all of the recipes (especially the puddings). Yum. I also really appreciate having the core recipes in the newsletter as well.
Thanks for another GREAT newsletter!

It does indeed look great ... the seitan steaks au poivre look like just the right thing to try out when my summer holidays begin tomorrow. We'll be off to our wonderful summer house in the Swedish country side for the next three weeks. Although we don't have the same kitchen facilities as here at home, I will be able to try several of the recipes. Yum! Thanks for the great work, Bryanna!

Bryanna,
I really love your article: Thanks for the Memories.
I also have a lot of kitchen memories. We had a family cook at home when I grew up that is dear to my heart. She treated me like her own daughter since she didn't have one. Because of her, I hung around in the kitchen and learned to cook at a young age too. I have memories of certain ethnic dishes that are dear to my heart. Good article!
Thanks for including the WW Core recipes. They look great. I can't wait to try them and report back.
What you said about people rely on fast food and frozen dinner are correct. There are so much junk food out there.

What a beautiful introduction in this newsletter, Bryanna. I SO agree about the memories of today's youth :(. I suspect many will develop diabetes from such horrible diets, which has now been shown to begin in children. I guess the comfort from food is largely the memories! I too, often remember the food. For example, I cannot think of menudo without remembering my grandmother and how she lovingly made it for us -- special, just for us; and her handmade tortillas. Unfortunately, so many foods are meat based! It would have been so great to have been reared on vegan foods! Mom's oxtail soup and Chicken Confetti were other favorites; though, I don't crave them at all, the memories attached are there.
Anyway, it was a lovely intro; and I liked reading a bit more about you. I didn't know your dad spoke 7 languages! Wow.
I also remember avocado sandwiches; though I wasn't fond of them at the time, lol. It was actually a neighbor who made them for us -- I think she was Colombian? Not sure -- but she made them very plain. :)
Are they of Spanish origin? How did you enjoy them? I've made them, but I would love to make an authentic or ethnic yummy avo sandwich, if there is such a thing! Or how were they made when you were little?

Great newsletter!
I do not have a slow cooker, but I do have 2 clay pots. I assume I can use those in lieu of the slow cooker in my oven at 200 to make the seitan steaks and seitan chicken...

Oh, I've already made one of the recipes several times actually - the tempeh-mushroom burgers (glad to finally have them 'officially' in a newsletter rather than a loose recipe)! These are good although a little elaborate. They freeze well, as Bryanna mentions in the recipe. Like Bryanna's husband, mine doesn't like tempeh on its own - my own opinion is that it's sort of an acquired taste - but we both like the burgers. Just today, I bought a package of tempeh to prepare a new batch ...
And guess who has just had his last working day in three and a half weeks!

I made the Couscous 'Chicken' salad last night and it was good. This one is very easy to make and require minimal cooking. It is great for our HOT weather that seems to be everlasting.
That's all we had for dinner and it was enough for a hot night. I don't know about in Canada but we have hot weather everywhere in the US. Where I am, it goes up to 100s and at night it only goes down to high 70s.

I'm glad you liked it, Debbie! We are supposed to be getting record-breaking hot weather starting today, unfortunately. Up until now it has been very pleasant. But I'm sure it will be nothing like what you have there! ---------- "To look like a goddess, eat like a peasant." Karen Andres
