Has anybody bought this from Frontier Herbs? http://www.shamanshop.net/store/proddetail.cfm/ItemID/18739.0/CategoryID/15500.0/SubCatID/3660.0/file.htm
Just wondered what it's like from them.
There is a picture with this one:
http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/soap/product.asp?product_id=herbirishmoss
It looks like the first batch I got (which I bought at my local HFS, but they no longer seem to have it), which was only slightly beige, very powdery, with no smell and very little taste. I might order this, even though it's from the States.

The one I just got from wellnaturally.ca looks like this and it's grainier. No smell in the package, though:

I just ordered 1 lb. from fromnaturewithlove.com-- I'll cross my fingers! i realize that this is a company that sells soap-making products. Irish moss is used in some products like this, but it's still edible, just like cocoa butter, etc.. ---------- "To look like a goddess, eat like a peasant." Karen Andres

I have revised the info with the revised recipes in the Oct/Nov 04 issue, adding photos of the product and possible vendors. I will keep you updated. ---------- "To look like a goddess, eat like a peasant." Karen Andres

Bryanna, I am so glad to know that it's not just me with the Irish Moss powder. I'll bring you some of mine so that you can see it. I think that there must be a carrageenan powder that has a neutral flavor which the trade uses for thickening soymilk and other products.

There is a really refined product for industrial use, but it's not available for general use. I think it's just that some of the domestic-use types are more bleached than others. ---------- "To look like a goddess, eat like a peasant." Karen Andres

That is the irish moss I've been using ... the one from Frontier Herbs, ordered from http://www.shamanshop.net. I was pretty busy at work during the discussion re: the cheeze-and-how-it-smells thread and so didn't post then, but this Frontier Herbs product has been working fine for me. It is my first purchase of irish moss, so I have nothing to compare it to.

Yes ... its color is just like that, and as you mentioned, it is VERY, VERY light and powdery.

Oh, good! I would order that one, but they charge an awful lot for shipping to Canada. I'm lookng into a Canadian source, but the one I ordered is only costing me $17 Cnd for a pound, WITH shipping and handling-- not bad! ---------- "To look like a goddess, eat like a peasant." Karen Andres

PS: shamanshop.net doesn't seem to carry the Frontier brand anymore. But you can order it straight from Frontier Coop: http://www.frontiercoop.com/prdDisp.php?I=2215
Actually, it was cheaper from the source I ordered it from! ---------- "To look like a goddess, eat like a peasant." Karen Andres
