Just curious what everyone here on this forum chooses as their favorite vegetable broth. It's used so often in vegan cooking from soup, gravy, loaves, etc. that I'm sure everyone has found one they reach for every time. I've actually made my own from scratch but rarely find the time to do that anymore.

I like Bill's Best Chicknish and bouillon cubes that I bought in Canada when I went to Bryanna's cooking vacation(McCormick brand). I can find Bill's Best in US easily but the McCormick brand is impossible to find in US so I stick with Bill's Best for now.

I also like this brand: http://www.harvest2000intl.com/h2000/vegbouillon.htm These I can find in regular supermarket like Ralphs (in my area). However, these are salty so I have to be careful and I don't use it to make seitans.

I like Bill's Best because it is NOT salty. I love it for making seitan. I think it is best not to make bouillon cubes or powder salty at all and we should be able to add our own salt.

Thanks, Debbie. Good point about the salt.

I really like the Vegetarian Express seasonings. They are fairly new so they are not in a lot of stores yet, but they can easily be ordered online. For broth they have a "La Chikky seasoning" and a "beef-like". I like them because they don't have a lot of fillers like soy flour and they are soy and wheat free for my friends with food sensitivities.

I used to really like the Harvest 2000 chicken broth that I get from the Asian market, but as Debbie said, it's quite salty. I also tried something new this week. A vegan chicken broth made by Butler Foods (the guys who make Soy Curls). I've only used their broth once when cooking soy curls and it was really good. That's my favorite broth for now.

Hi Stephanie,

I'm not familiar with the Vegetarian Express brand but I'll watch for it. Finding wheat-free bouillon is definitely tricky. And low-sodium, too? Well, good luck!

I use this stuff by Gaylord Hauser--they're the folks who make Spike and Vege-Sal. It's made entirely from dried veggie powder. It doesn't dissolve especially well so it doesn't really work for a clear broth but that's normally not an issue.

I also like the Rapunzel vegetable bouillon cubes. They're low-sodium and wheat-free (made with rice flour).

For chicken-flavored bouillon cubes, I use a Canadian brand,CelifibR, which is gluten-free.
