I thought I saw it somewhere when I answered your question in the previous post but I was not sure so I didn't say anything. I just went to Whole Foods market in Tustin and found dried unsweetened jackfruit snacks.
Whole Foods in Tustin just started selling dried fruit and vegetable without any additional sweetener. There are all kind of fruits and vegetables. They call it snacks. For example, banana snacks, pineapple snacks, burdock root snacks, green bean snacks, etc. Each one is packaged separately (not mixed together) in a plastic container. They conducted sampler sessions sometimes and let people try it. They were good but I thought that they are expensive, for 4 oz. cost $3.95. I just sampled them and didn't buy any.
I am not sure if other Whole Foods carry them.
So yes, there is dried unsweetened jackfruit. BTW, may I ask what you are going to cook with the jackfruit? Some gourmet dishes?

Oh, wow, thanks, Deb!
I checked one of the WF nearby and didn't find it; but I have some other places I still have to check. At least I know it's here :). Too bad you didn't get a brand name so I could ask WF to order some for me... actually, I'll just ask anyway. They obviously have it on their products list. I'll have to check Asian markets as well; I can't imagine they wouldn't have it! AND for much less, cost-wise.
I haven't tried it yet, Deb :). I am very curious as to the texture and how it will work. It would be a very nice no-fat, no-junk meat replacement if the texture is right, don't you think? Possibly marinating it, stirfrying, or even marinated, uncooked may have a pleasing texture. I'm thinking similar to the faux mushroom "meats" I used to love (but could rarely find :() I imagine it would be a nice shredded texture, possibly tuna-y or chickeny...
Thanks!

Hi Linda,
There was no brand. It is made at Whole Foods, their deli prepared it, I think. It was in a clear plastic container maked with their deli label.
Do you mean to use dried jackfruit for meat replacement? I am confused. The dried jackfruit I found is yellow and the ripe ones, not the young jackfruit. It is yellow, sweet, and dried.
If you are looking for the dried young jackfruit, I have never seen those. I usually use the canned one.

Hi, Deb :)
Thaitastes just confirmed there's no added sugar to their dried jackfruit, yay!
The canned jackfruit in water is not sweet at all, which is why I've been so confused as to various opinions on jackfruit, in general.
On a sidenote, it's hard to post a comment on your blog! Not sure why, but I can't seem to even get the script to appear. The comment window pops up, but it is blank! Dori's is a hassle, too, but if I spend a few minutes, I can get it done! Haven't had a prob on Bryanna's... So when is your cookbook coming out, Deb?!! You know I'm a cookbookaholic! We recipe junkies need our fix, lol :D

Hi Linda,
Yes, I don't think there are added sugar. I like it too. Too bad the WF near you don't sell it. You can submit to their website and tell them that WF in Tustin have it.
Re: the comments. It is hard because I moderate the comments before it is published. I was afraid of negative comments from anti-vegan people. But I just updated so I don't have to moderate it anymore. I am tired of moderating it too. :-) So you can try it again and let me know if it is still hard. Thanks for visiting my blog.
