Does anyone know a source for dried, unsweetened, jackfruit? I know there is canned...

I don't know if this freeze-dried jackfruit is sweetened or not: http://www.thaitastes.com/product_info.php?products_id=85

This product is also freeze-dried and it implies no sugar:

("We use SHOCK FREEZE AIR BLAST SYSTEM to freeze Jackfruit meat and dry it by using VACUUM FREEZE-DRYING MACHINE to preserve its original taste and nutrient.')

So it might be worth checking Asian grocery stores for freeze-dried jackfruit (there seem to be lots of importers).

This is from Hawaii and called "Jackfruit Jerky"-- you'd have to ask them if it's sweetened or not;

Thanks, Bryanna. I came up with pretty much the same type stuff. It says freeze dried, "no preservatives or artificial" this-or-that, but not explicit on whether it has sweetener!
I emailed some sources and will wait for a response on whether any are unsweetened.

Deb, do you have any experience with this?

Linda, fresh jackfruit is naturally sweet, but this site
Jackfruit
says that their product is "soaked in syrup"!! Most Asian markets carry frozen jackfruit. Is that something you can use instead of dried ?

Okay, thanks, Debbie.

Val, that looks good, though, doesn't it? Lol. It's like candied ginger, I guess.

I haven't received any emails about the dried jackfruit :( I think my best bet will be to go to one of the Asian-foods markets around town.

I've never had jackfruit any other way besides canned, in water; so it's strange that I keep reading it's naturally sweet! It tastes bland in water.

I love the product "JUST LIKE HONEY" made from brown rice syrup. You can order it from veganessentials.com.

Linda, to be honest with you, I've never had canned jackfruit. I've always had it fresh, and once I was craving it and couldn't find fresh (when we lived in PA) so I got frozen instead. Thankfully we're now in CA and have access to fresh jackfruit.

Try the fresh or frozen ones. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!
