(hi, everyone! I'm new.)
Bryanna, it was me who mentioned fortifying soymilk in your blog comments (I'm veganmum on blogger), and I appreciate your reply! I actually had just had DH pick up some organic soybeans when he was out of town on business a few weeks ago, with the intention of making homemade soymilk and tofu per your recipes.
I can certainly source calcium carbonate powder, but I wonder if anyone knew of any source of D2 powder or liquid (I asked my friendly neighbourhood pharmacist and he came up empty). My kids don't get any real amount of sunshine in the long northern winter, and since they're both small (under 3) I'd rather be safe than sorry. At the same time, I really want to start making my own soymilk, both for the satisfaction of doing it myself, and for the cost savings!
Any ideas, anyone? When my oldest was born I did find a liquid D2 supplement (exorbitantly expensive) called Drisdol, but it's since been discontinued and the bottle I have is expired.
Looking forward to reading through the pages of old posts here! ;) Krista

Krista, it might be easier to get a vegan vitamin pill with D2 in it rather than try to fortify your soymilk. On this page (a Canadian outfit) is a vegan children's chewable calcium table with D2 ("Sisu Kiddie Cal"): http://www.nevitamins.com/index.php/cPath/33
Here is a page with brands of vegan multi-vitamins-- you could see if your pharmacy or health food store (or the site above) could carry any of them: http://www.veganhealth.org/sh#veganmultivitamins ---------- "To look like a goddess, eat like a peasant." Karen Andres

Thanks, Bryanna. I hadn't thought about that because the baby is too little for chewables, but I could always crush them up for him. Pretty sure that sisu is carried in the supermarkets here. Good idea. :)
