I was at Vegfest this weekend, and tasted some very good whole grain crackers (unfortunately, pretty pricy too). They were spelt with a sprinkling of seeds on top. I was wondering if you have any recipes for homemade crackers or cracker breads?
Thanks!!

I don't have spelt ones, but I'll email you my "cracker file" and I'm, sure you can create one! ---------- "To look like a goddess, eat like a peasant." Karen Andres

Julie,
I tried the same kind of spelt crackers with sunflower seeds on it (bought it from Whole Foods). Yes, it was very good, I really enjoyed it, but it is pricy. The brand is DOCTOR something with a drawing of a doctor on it.

Yes Debbie, those are the crackers (called Dr. Krackers). Very good, but I figured that homemade would be better and much cheaper. Plus, I like the idea of customizing them.
I also tried a very delicious vegetarian cavier (made out of seaweed). Believe it or not, my son couldn't stop sampling it. I have the order info if anyone is interested. I also tried different agave syrups that were very good. My favorite was the dark amber. I also tried Whole Soy vegan cream cheese (very good), yogurt (delish) and frozen yogurt (Yum!). In fact, almost all of the foods that I sampled were great, but those were my favorite.
Oh, one other thing that I was taken with. It was a local veg hotdog restaurant, and they were passing out samples. What was a standout was their uncooked tomato sauce that they put on the hotdog instead of ketchup/relish. It was a puree of fresh tomatoes, basil, garlic, parsley and olive oil. So tasty!

Hhmm....that's a good idea to make your own spelt crackers. Please let us know when you are successful.
Yes, I am interested to know the order info for the veg. caviar made of sea vegetables. It will be good in sushi, do you think? Also, the agave syrup order info, I am interested. I have been using it lately.
I will look for Whole Soy vegan cream cheese in Whole Foods.
Thanks Julie!

Yes Debbie, the veg cavier would be delicious in sushi. It tastes somewhat like nori. My 12 year old son, as he was eating it by the spoonful, kept saying "doesn't it taste just like the sea?". It is delish! It's also shelf stable, so it only needs to be refrigerated once the jar is open. I was thinking that it would also be fun for appetizers too.
The web site is www.caviart.us/. One word though, I think that either the red caviar or the salmon one (I can't remember which one) wasn't entirely veg. But the black lumpfish and the yellow lumpfish are vegan.
I can't find the info on the agave syrup now. But as soon as I find it, I'll post it. It was so sweet that you could get away with using very little to sweeten foods. I'm not sure though how it would work in baking.

Thanks Julie! That's exactly what I missed 'the taste of the sea'. I will order them and try it in brown rice sushi.
Thanks again! BTW, it is made in Denmark!

Julie,
I was wondering why it is not veg (the red ones). It contains fish oil. Yaik! I am ordering the black and yellow. Here is the company's answer:
Dear Debbie,
The BLACK LUMPFISH and the Yellow LUMPFISH is 100% VEGAN. The two red types contain some fish oil. Kind Regards, Helge Klausen Norsea, LLC 110 West Dayton, Suite 105 Edmonds, WA 98020, USA Office phone: 425-967-0149 Office Fax: 425-967-0242 Cell: 206-354-1656 hsklausen@msn.com

Yes, that's what I thought they said. That's why I only got the yellow and the black. Very nice people from the company though. I I thought that the prices were reasonable (it's actually cheaper on their website then it was at Vegfest).
