Hi Bryanna,
Here's an Italian cooking question for you.
My great aunt once gave me a chunk of dried tomato paste wrapped in corn husk. She said that her family used to hang them from the rafters. When they wanted to make sauce, they would just reach up, cut off a piece of the dried paste then add it to their pan.
Have you ever heard of anything like this? Do you happen to know the Italian name for it? Or have a more detailed recipe?
Someone told me that something similar (stored in oil, not in corn husk) was pronounced (don't know how it was spelled!) "astrato" in Sicilian. Unfortunately, I don't know where in Italy this particular aunt's family was from. She was married to my grandmother's brother.
