So what exactly is the bottom line on Emes Unflavored Kosher Gelatin . . . is it vegan or isn't it?

I Googled it and BarryFarm.Com lists Emes' ingredients as:
Sugar (non-bone char refined)
Potassium citrate
Adipic acid
Carrageenan
Locust bean gum

Are any of these things non-vegan? If not, why do so many people insist that Emes Gelatin is not really vegan??

I'd really like to make vegan marshmallows . . . I'm too cheap to order them online . . . PLUS I already know to make marshamllows from back when I was not vegan.

Can anybody make a judgement call on this topic? . . . 'cause I'd REALLY Jones-ing for marshamllows . . . S'Mores . . . Rice Krispie Treats . . . etc.

Thanks everybody . . .

They appear to have lied. Read this:

Those of you who may have used EMES supposedly-vegan kosher jel in the past probably know that it has been the subject of alot of controversy. Thought you'd like an update. Read the latest article from vegparadise.com:

According to the article above, in vegparadise.com, fresh pineapple contains enzyme that will prevent a animal source gelatin to set. Below is the description from barryfarm.com about Emes:

Unflavored gelatin is odorless and colorless and makes an excellent thicken agent. Dissolved in hot water and then cooked it forms a jelly. It is used in making aspics, desserts, mousse, etc.
Raw fruits like papaya, pineapple, guavas, kiwi, mangoes, passion fruit, figs and ginger root contain an enzyme that inhibits gelatin from setting. It breaks down the gelatin causing it to loose its thickening powers. However, cooking the fruit kills this enzyme and the gel will set. Canned fruits are okay to use.

It suggested that fresh fruit with enzymes to be cooked first. That's interesting because that is the fact that it is not vegan.

Bryanna . . . thanks a million for resolving this controversy . . . WOW . . . UNREAL!!

So if Emes isn't vegan . . . how can I make vegan marhmallows?

Anybody out there with a suitable recipe . . . I've tried the ones that I Googled . . . and they didn't turn out well.

Linda tried them with Kojel and didn't have success. I wonder if Pomona's Universal Pectin would work?

I haven't heard any new recipe yet to make a real vegan marshmallow without Emes. I bought 2 pkgs of vegan marshmallow, Vegan Sweet brand, but didn't like it. There is an 'after taste' that I didn't like and can't pin point what it is. I wonder if it is from the carageenan.

I have never bought Vegan Supreme Marshmallow before but this one used Emes. So that's ok that I have never tasted it. Sadly enough that this company now is no longer in business because of Emes.

So I guess whoever comes up with the recipe of a 'real' vegan marshmallow will be blessed by the vegan world. :-)
