You had mentioned that you make grits in your rice cooker and that you really like Bob's Red Mill brand. Is it sold as "grits" or "coarse cornmeal"? Can you use the same product to also make polenta? I want to buy some to use in my rice cooker, but want to make sure that I buy the right one. I thought that it would be great if it will work double duty for both grits and polenta.
Thanks Debbie!

Hi Julie,
Yes, it is the same, polenta or corn grits. I don't use the white grits they sell in regular market. In BRM, I bought the medium grind Organic Corn Grits/Polenta. It is very nice. It is a double duty as corn grits and polenta.

Thanks Debbie! I'm going to BRM this weekend, so now I know what to get.
Julie
P.S. When you cook it in the rice cooker, do you let it soak overnight and then switch the cooker on or put it all together and then cook it on the porridge cycle?

Debbie,
Wouldn't I want a coarse grind for the grits, rather than a medium?

Hi Julie,
No, you don't need to soak the grits. Just put the grits in the rice cooker with water and salt , then click the porridge cycle button. I follow the recipe from that Rice Cooker cookbook. I used to cook it on top of the stove (without soaking) and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. But on the stove, I have to watch and stir it. In my fuzzy logic rice cooker I don't have to.
After the grits are cooked or thickened you can add Earth Balance and soy milk to make it creamy.
I checked again on BRM's grits. It is actually called Corn Grits/Polenta and doesn't say medium grind. I was confused with my corn meal from BRM. I bought medium grind cornmeal from BRM too. That's why I am confused. ---------- Debbie

Thanks Debbie! I went to BRM yesterday and bought the corn grits. I can't wait to make them. In fact, it's hard to not go crazy in that store and buy everything. It all looks so yummy!!!
But I did notice that some of their online prices are cheaper. I asked them about it and they said they do that on purpose. They figure that since customers are paying for shipping too, that they will keep the prices somewhat lower.
