What are you All making this Halloween?! Decorations? Treats? Food?
Bryanna, do you think this can be done vegan style? What would be a good thing to try in place of the powdered meringue, which is noted as "'a Must' which cannot be omitted"? I was thinking of your meringue, but that is a recipe and not the powdered product... SUGAR SKULLS
Also, don't you think these little ghosties would be great to make? I may give these a try with your meringue, if my niece and nephew pop by on Halloween! :)

I don't know how you could make those skulls without the meringue powder (would you really make those? lots of work!).
the "ghostie" perhaps could be made with a vegan marshmallow recipe instead of a meringue (there is no hard vegan meringue recipe)? ---------- "To look like a goddess, eat like a peasant." Karen Andres

Yes, I would make them! Actually, my sister and I do some sort of crafts every Halloween. Last year, we did the Gossamer Ghosties, which I love and have done for the past few years now; and we did paper mache-type painted jack-o-lanterns out of newspaper! We've made pumpkin lanterns... Lots of fun.
The skulls do look like a lot of work, but with plenty of time to prepare, it would be a nice little project for us :). But, unfortunately, without the powder, I guess it can't be done. On to something else! There are lots of other crafts to try.
You're right! I hadn't thought of marshmallows for this; I think that would be a much better recipe to use. Coloring the marshmallows is easy, too, I've done it before. I've made pumpkins, half moons, cats, etc., before, too, now that I think of it, using cookie cutters after the marshmallow cake (poured thinly onto a cookie sheet) has dried. I made ghosts using a cookie cutter, but these meringues look so much cuter. I think, if I use a piping bag, and do it quickly, maybe it can be done. Thanks.

Linda - I know this is the 9th hour, but I wonder if you could use Suzanne's Ricemellow Creme to pipe the Ghosties? Might have to "tighten" it with agar or Kojel. www.suzannes-specialties.com
