I emailed butlerfoods and he asked me about 'Best Buy' date from the package. It is funny that the 'Best Buy' date on my packages are blank. Do you have a date on your soy curls packages? Or maybe they put the date on the box it came with? Obviously, I already threw the box away.

He said that it should last 6 months to a year and longer than that if it is kept in a cool dry place. He is willing to replace them.

I am going to order more, 24 pkgs. I like them a lot. Although, there is a chance that it may go stale. Maybe I will ask Val if she wants to share some from me. :-)

I don't have my box anymore, either. but I am about to order some more. I wonder if vacuum-packing would help?

I ordered 12 pkgs of soy curls this time. I think 24 pkgs are too much for us. I ordered them more than a year ago. Sam said that some people put the soy curls in the freezer if there is a space. He will replace the 2 pkgs that have gone stale. He is very nice to do that.

How can you tell if they are stale? Do they change color or have a strange odor? About 5 months ago I bought 12 pounds of loose Soy Curls and packed them into screw-top jars. So far they seem fine.

I have handed out a lot to friends as samples. I give them a plastic bag and a printout of how to rehydrate and suggestions for use.

My son is not a vegetarian but he eats Soy Curls about 3 times a week. He says when he comes home from work and is hungry, they are faster than thawing out some m**t. He uses them in stir fries, puts them on pizza, adds them to casseroles, etc.

You will know. It smells stale and tastes funny. I don't know how to describe it. A bit bitter, I say. If you still like yours, they are not stale, I am sure. If you use it 3 times a week then more than likely you will finish the batch before they go stale. I don't use it 3 times a week. I bought 24 pkgs last time and it was a bit too much for us.

It takes more than a year before it goes stale. Sam told me that his can last for more than year, almost 2 years. You can try to remember the date you bought it.

Hey all!

We've just landed in up north, but unfortunatley we don't have internet yet. Thankfully I found a coffee house with wifi!

As we're unpacking our stuff, I noticed that my Soy Curls had spoiled. They had the most awful terpentine-like smell to them. I had only had them about 6 months or so. After reading this post, I think that I will give them a call. I had ordered the large box, and only used about half of it.

I hope that everyone is having a great summer!!

Hi Julie,

Welcome back to the forum! You are probably very busy right now, moving. This is the best time to be in Pacific Northwest. Have a lot of fun!

Yes, it tastes awful when they are stale. I don't have a date on each package so I don't really know how long they have been in the package.

You can call Butler Foods and talk to Sam. He will replace your packages. I know you had it for 6 months but I wonder if the curls were made more than 6 months ago. They really should put a date on each package for us to keep track of.

I ordered new batches but this time I only ordered 12 pkgs.
He said that I should not expose them to light and I actually didn't because I stored them inside a dark cabinet and the curls are in packages.

BTW, the new soy curls packages that I got has the 'Best By' date on each package. It says 06-06 which I think means June 2006.

Yeah, I'm back on line!!!!

Yes Debbie, you're right. It's a beautiful time to be in the Pacific Northwest! I LOVE it here! We went berry picking the other day and picked 12 pounds of organic raspberries and blueberries for 99 cents a pound. Yummy!! Now that my kitchen is almost up and functuntioning I can start to cook up many of the delish recipes from Bryanna's newsletters. I have some catching up to do!

I did call Butler Foods about the Soy Curls and he appologized and sent me out a new bulk box of them (I actually received it the very next day). What great customer service!!
